Born McKinley Morganfield in Mississippi in 1913, he began playing acoustic Delta blues before moving to Chicago in the 1940s, where he helped transform the genre by using electric guitar and a full band. His powerful voice and driving guitar style influenced countless musicians, including rock bands like The Rolling Stones, who even took their name from his song Rollin’ Stone. Classic songs such as Hoochie Coochie Man, Mannish Boy, and Got My Mojo Working helped shape the sound of blues and early rock music for generations.
